Silver Charleston Rice Spoon
The silver Charleston Rice Spoon, derived from the English Stuffing Spoon, historically had a long handle. During the 18th and 19th centuries rice was an immensely important crop to Charleston’s economy and the rice spoon was created. Kaminer Haislip offers this contemporary design based on the historic form. Traditionally given as a wedding gift in the Lowcountry, this contemporary interpretation gives a nod to tradition while still looking forward.
The handle was hand formed in thick silver wire and has a hammered surface texture that makes it very strong. This rice spoon is part of Kaminer’s Flight of Fancy series that includes two condiment spoons, a serving spoon, a pair of salad servers, a baby cup, and two baby spoons. The handle design was inspired by the shape of a bird’s wing throughout the collection.
