Gibbes Museum of Art Lecture May 2012

Kaminer Haislip presented a lecture on her silver artwork to the Women’s Council of the Carolina Art Association at the Gibbes Museum of Art Monday, May 7, 2012.  The Women’s Council of the Carolina Art Association serves as a vital support system of the Gibbes Museum of Art. The Women’s Council volunteers time, talent and financial support to the museum. Its dedicated members also serve as liaisons between the Gibbes and both residents of and visitors to the Charleston community.  The Gibbes Museum of Art is located on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston, SC.  Additional information on the museum can be found at http://www.gibbesmuseum.org/.

Preservation Society Party and Fundraiser April 2012

A world of design inspiration awaits at the 11th annual Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York City March 22-25, 2012. Explore the latest products for the home. Shop from new and established brands. Get inspired by new ideas and insight from top talents in the industry.

Contemporary silversmith Kaminer Haislip will be exhibiting her functional, sculptural hand-crafted designs in the MADE section of the Show.  The MADE section was launched in 2008 to provide individual artists and designers of limited edition and/or one-of-a-kind objects and furnishings with an opportunity to promote themselves at the Show. Although artisan work has always been a part of the Show’s offerings, MADE highlights this work with a voice of its own rather than being mixed among corporate production brands.

Kaminer Haislip’s collections presented in the MADE section will be available for purchase on-site and customization capabilities will be offered.

A MEDAL FOR ALF

Alfred (Alf) Ward recently received the Winthrop University Medal of Honor in the Arts. Ward, a Winthrop University Professor of Art and Design, and an internationally renowned goldsmith who created the Winthrop University mace, among numerous other important commissions, designed and creates the Medals. Born in London, Ward studied silversmithing at Canterbury College of Art and completed his National Diploma in Design at Birmingham University in 1963.

As a consultant designer to Spink & Sons in London, and by Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, he designed many presentation pieces for The Royal Air Force, The Royal Family of Saudi Arabia, Revlon of Paris and individual awards for Margo Fontaine and the Covent Garden Opera House.

Since his arrival at Winthrop University in 1989, among other commissions, Ward has designed and produced silverware for the American Crafts Council, ceremonial maces for the University of Tennessee, Coastal Carolina and designed brooch pins for the last 10 First Ladies of South Carolina.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show November 2011

Selected from more than 1,300 applicants, this premier exhibition and sale of contemporary American craft included 195 of the best craft artists in the United States.  The exhibition was held Thursday November 10-Sunday November 13 with a Preview Party opening the show Wednesday November 9.  Silversmith Kaminer Haislip exhibited in the highly competitive show and was awarded  The Eric Berg Prize for Excellence in Metal.

About Kaminer Haislip

Kaminer Haislip earned her BFA in Jewelry and Metals (2002) and MFA in Silversmithing and Design with a Minor in Sculpture (2005) from Winthrop University.  For both of her degrees she studied under Alfred Ward, an internationally acclaimed English silversmith.  Currently, she has a studio at Redux Contemporary Art Center in downtown Charleston, SC where she creates functional objects and jewelry.  In addition to her work as an artist, she is frequently commissioned by individuals to create custom designs. She exhibits her work nationally and internationally and has been featured in various publications.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show is presented annually by the Museum’s Women’s Committee and Craft Show Committee for the benefit of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Funds raised are used to purchase works of art and craft for the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, to fund conservation and publication projects, and to support exhibitions and education programs.
