The Preservation Society of Charleston will be hosting their third annual Party on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 7pm. The event will be hosted at Memminger Auditorium in downtown Charleston, SC.

Kaminer Haislip donated a hand-crafted sterling silver baby cup to the fundraiser auction. Attend and have a chance to bid on it! Proceeds from the Party benefit ‘Seven to Save’, an annual outreach program of the Preservation Society of Charleston designed to focus the work of the organization in a proactive and constructive way, delivering intellectual and financial resources to raise awareness and support for key preservation projects in Charleston and the region.

Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach – April 2013

Join Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach on April 25, 2013 for the Great Expectations fundraiser, hosted by the Charleston Library Society, located at 164 King Street from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The evening will feature thoughtful conversation inspired by great books, decorative table settings, wine, champagne and generous hors d’oevres by Crave catering. Twelve designers, some local and others outside of the Charleston area, will participate in this unique and worthwhile event. Additionally, a silent auction will take place that evening and guests will have the chance to bid on a sterling silver, handcrafted Nest Bowl by Kaminer Haislip.

Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased by calling Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach at (843) 559-4109.

The mission of Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Services, Inc. is to provide educational, health and direct outreach services to people in need on James, Johns and Wadmalaw Islands and at the Neighborhood House in Charleston, while encouraging and supporting self-sufficiency and self-esteem.

New Jewelry Line – Santorini Dome Series – March 2013

My most recent sterling silver and steel jewelry line, Santorini Dome Series, was inspired by my travels to Greece. My husband Matt and I went there on our honeymoon and one of the places we visited in the Greek Isles was Santorini. The island has incredible architecture atop an ancient volcano caldera. One of the distinguishable architectural elements is the blue dome.

From the photographs I took on our travels, I rendered jewelry designs. I chose sterling silver as the main material, because most of Santorini’s architecture is painted white. I selected blued steel to represent the dome feature in several of the pieces. I felt the less precious, rough material would communicate the weathered surface of the domes better than gems or stones.

The final element that inspired this series was Art Deco. The layered motifs, geometric shapes, and clean lines regularly influence my jewelry and silversmithing designs. Additionally, I felt the movement was appropriate to reference, since some elements of the style were influenced by Egyptian architecture and architecture inspired this line.

Fine craftsmanship is an equally important aspect of my work. My design approach is not steered by fashion or trends, but focuses on timeless quality that is durable and lasts. I am devoted to exceptional craftsmanship and all of my work is exquisitely fabricated by hand. My concepts vary for different series, but all of my work is unified by elegant design.

Silver Jewelry Etching Class

Tuesdays, January 15, 22, and 29/ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Cost: Member $165 / Non-Member $215

In this introductory course to jewelry etching, students will etch a design onto silver and have the option to create a cuff bracelet or a pendant. Basic jewelry techniques include piercing, sawing. annealing, soldering, hammering, and finishing. Students are provided with all tools, equipment and silver. No experience necessary!

Jewelry Ring Workshop

When: Friday, March 8, 2013: 12:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Cost: Member $80 / Non-Member $100

Learn the basics of jewelry making and make your own ring. Hammering piercing, sawing, soldering, bezel setting, and finishing will be covered. No experience necessary. All equipment, tools, and materials included.

Silver Bracelet Making

When: Friday, February 8 / 12:30pm – 6:30pm

Cost: Member $125 / Non-Member $155

Design a silver bracelet and learn beginner’s jewelry techniques, including piercing, filing, annealing, hammering, forming, and finishing. No experience necessary. All equipment, tools, and materials included.
